MEMBERSHIP CHAIR

Job Description:

The Membership Chair is responsible for all the recruiting activities within the Troop. He/she will work with the Membership Committee to coordinate visits by new Scouts and ensure that any questions the Scouts or their parents might have get answered. They will also ensure that all the necessary paperwork for a new Scout joining the Troop is completed in a timely manner.

The Membership Chair must be at least 18 years of age, be approved by the Troop's chartered organization, and must agree to live by the Scout Oath and Law.

Job Obligations:

  1. Coordinate visits by new Scouts to ensure the best possible visit for both the recruit and the Troop.
  2. Ensure there an adequate number of older Scouts that can meet with the new recruits to explain to them about our Troop and Boy Scouting in general.
  3. Work with the Membership Committee to ensure recruiting activities are being carried out within our District.
  4. Work with the Membership Committee to attend all of the recruiting events sponsored by the District.
  5. Ensure all the paperwork for a new Scout joining the Troop is submitted in a timely manner and that all monies are collected and turned into the Troop Treasurer.
  6. Assist in the Recharter process each year.
  7. Verify that all new adults wishing to become registered have filled out the appropriate form, paid the necessary fees and has called all the personal references.
  8. Work with the Scoutmaster to get new Scouts assigned to patrols.
  9. Though the wearing of the Scout uniform by the Membership Chair is not required, it is strongly encouraged.
  10. Be a good role model for the Scouts in the troop, and live by the Scout Oath, Law, Motto, and Slogan.
  11. Be a registered Adult Leader or Member of Committee and be Youth Protection Trained.
