MERIT BADGE COORDINATOR

Job Description:

The Merit Badge Coordinator assists the Advancement Committee by recruiting, validating and maintaining the records for the Troop’s Merit Badge Counselors. He/she will assist the Scouts by providing them the names of the Merit Badge Counselors in the Troop when asked. The Merit Badge Coordinator is not required to hold merit badge blue cards or process the cards when completed.

The Merit Badge Coordinator must be at least 18 years of age, be approved by the Troop's chartered organization, and must agree to live by the Scout Oath and Law.

Job Obligations:

  1. Participate in troop committee meetings, as necessary.
  2. Recruit adults to fill the various Merit Badge Counselor positions within the Troop.
  3. Maintain records in TroopMaster for all the Troop’s Merit Badge Counselors.
  4. Ensure the adults wishing to become Merit Badge Counselors meet BSA requirements.
  5. Assist the adults in filling out the necessary paperwork and ensuring that paperwork is promptly turned in to District.
  6. Assist the Scouts by assigning them to a Counselor when asked.
  7. Though the wearing of the Scout uniform by the Merit Badge Coordinator is not required, it is strongly encouraged.
  8. Be a good role model for the Scouts in the troop, and live by the Scout Oath, Law, Motto, and Slogan.
  9. Be a registered Adult Leader or Member of Committee and be Youth Protection Trained.
