Notice for Drivers

We have been getting some clarification on some of the BSA policies concerning adults who are driving Scouts to events. The BSA policy is such that ONLY registered adults are covered under the BSA insurance program in the event of an accident. Most of you are probably already aware, but for those who might not be, the BSA insurance is only a SECONDARY insurance in the case of an accident. Unfortunately, if you have an accident and are not a registered adult then the BSA won't protect you in the event of a law suit or help with the medical costs etc.
To protect our Troop and the Charter Organization it will be necessary for ALL adults who participate in activities with the Troop, especially those that tend to help us with transportation, to become registered adults. This is done by submitting an adult application form with $10. Mark the position as Member of Committee. (The added benefit is you are now able to attend Committee meetings as a voting member) I apologize to those who have so graciously supported our Troop over the years with transportation for this new change. But in this day and age it is necessary for us to protect you, the Troop and the Charter Organization.
Along with this we are also requiring that all the adults who are working within the Troop to become certified under the BSAs Youth Protection Program. This again is to protect you, the Troop and the Charter Organization. This can be done online by going to the Circle 10 Council web site (www.circle10.org) and select "resources". It does not take much time to do. Once you have received your card or printed your certificate please bring it to the Committee Chair or Adult Training or Advancement Chair so that we can get it into the Troop records. This applies to all registered adults, merit badge counselors and those who attend camp outs or help with the program in general.
If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact the Committee Chair from the Contacts web page.
