NORTH DISTRICT
SPRING DEN CHIEF TRAINING

January 27, 2007

The Den Chief is a critical member of the Cub Scout leadership team who helps Cub Scout Leaders with the Cub Scout program during den and pack meetings. Being a Den Chief also qualifies as a troop leadership position for rank advancement.
To be successful, though, he or she must learn leadership skills, organization techniques, and, most importantly, how to work with Cub Scouts and Pack Leaders to motivate young Scouts to “Do Their Best” and to help prepare Webelos Scouts for Boy Scouts.

This afternoon-long training will help the den chief identify what his or her responsibilities are to the den, learn how to assist the den leader with the den meeting plan, and offer a variety of ideas for activities useful with Cub Scouts. It combines fun and enjoyment with an excellent character building experience. Participants will build enthusiasm for the job, develop high morale, and practice the skills needed to be successful. You will leave this training with new ideas for skits, songs, games and tricks to thrill the boys you will be working with. The best kind of den chief is a TRAINED den chief, and here is a great opportunity for you!

WHO: Boy Scouts and Varsity Scouts (preferably First Class rank and above) as well as Venturing Crew Members (male or female) who desire to become leaders through service as Cub Scout or Webelos Scout Den Chiefs. Ideally, a Den Chief should be at least two years older than those scouts being led.

WHAT: Half-day training course to prepare Boy Scouts, Varsity Scouts, and Venturing Crew Members to serve as effective Den Chiefs.
