Canoe the Brazos! We’ll head out Friday evening and camp at the canoe facility. They will drop us off at the Brazos river early Saturday morning. We’ll spend the day on the river, camp on the river banks, and return Sunday morning. Prepare to get wet!
Scouts will be responsible for bringing their own food for this event. Details to be provided.
Update 5/30 2:30 PM
Good afternoon everyone,
We absolutely hate to do this, but we need to ‘play our safety card’ and change our plans this weekend due to water levels. Yesterday they opened up the flood gates on Possum Kingdom Lake, and the water is now about 10 feet higher than it was last year when we paddled the Brazos. This translates to over 10 times the amount of water flowing by – which is a SIGNIFICANT amount of water.
Mr. Hayes called the canoe rental company, and they do not feel comfortable/safe putting children younger than 13, or folks with little canoeing experience on the water when conditions are like this.
So, from a safety perspective, we can’t justify having a Scout event in conditions like this.
